Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mosquito (Universal)
The fourth album from American alt-rockers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs feels like a step back in time to the mid 90s and early 2000s. It features an alternative sound that was around back in the day, along with some cool re-imagined experimentation to bring the tracks in to 2013. But more than that, it’s a continuation of the brilliant music that Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans have come to love. From the blood sucking title track Mosquito to the wonderful Wedding Song and one of my favourites, Area 52, Karen O’s vocals can almost entrance the listener, sometimes it’s haunting, sometimes it’s funky, most of the time it’s cool. Keep an ear out for Buried Alive featuring Dr. Octagon (also known as Kool Keith), who definitely rocked his cameo with his classic hip hop sound. A little bit of old and a little bit of new makes up this album that is fantastic to put on in the background or listen to if you just want to lose yourself for 50 minutes.
