We’ve got five in-season double passes to give away to the hilarious new comedy, The Breaker Upperes.
A hilarious, fun and raunchy Kiwi comedy about a pair of besties who run a business breaking up couples for cash. At its heart, it is a film about female friendship and love in all forms. Directed by, written by and starring NZ comedians Jackie van Beek and Madeleine Sami, it’s a film by women for women with a majority female crew.
From Taika Waititi and the producers of Hunt For The Wilderpeople and Boy, the movie co-stars James Rolleston (Boy) and Australia’s Celia Pacquola (Rosehaven) in her first feature film role, plus cameos by NZ’s funniest comedic talent.
Loved by critics and audiences and a recent crowd and critical pleaser at the Opening Night of the Sydney Film Festival, it contains contemporary and relatable themes on female friendship, love, unconventional families and outsourcing life’s difficult problems.
Here’s a brief synopsis:
Fifteen years ago, Mel (Madeleine Sami) and Jen (Jackie van Beek) discovered they were being two-timed by the same man. Bitter and cynical they became fast friends and formed The Breaker Upperers, a small-time business breaking up couples for cash. Now they’re in their late-thirties and business is booming. They’re a platonic, codependent couple who keep their cynicism alive by not getting emotionally involved with anybody else. But when they run into an old victim, Mel develops a conscience and their friendship is truly put to the test.
