Boasting a young Australian cast, including AFI Award winner Sophie Luck, SYD2030 follows the lives of five Eastern Sydney
law students, struggling to balance their hectic social lives with a demanding workload. But, while the textbooks are hefty and the
teachers strict, it’s the sexual escapades, drug overdoses, boozy scandals and naughty secrets that keep the students of SYD2030
really on their toes. SYD2030 is a 12 part webseries created by Sydney based production company Cheese on Toast Productions.
SYD2030 includes an all Sydney based cast and crew including designers, musicians, and locations, captured within 12 episodes,
approximately 5 – 10 minutes each.
SYD2030 represents an endeavour into the rising popularity of watching television on the web. “We made a webseries,
so we understand and appreciate that audiences are increasingly using technology to find new ways to view content” notes Alex Cayas, SYD2030’s production manger. “The ABC has truly been at the forefront of online video distribution in Australia. By developing iview, the ABC is endeavouring to meet changing audience behaviour and expectations and we love that SYD2030 is going to be a part of that change.”
Despite filming in Sydney’s wettest summer in history, not to mention the helicopter rescues, corrupted disks, broken equipment and some 21 hour shoots, SYD2030 is an impressive achievement for the team of under 24’s that developed it. As a self-funded project, SYD2030 has already proven to be an International success. Since the series release, SYD2030 has won ‘Best International Webseries’ at the LA Film, TV and Webisode Festival, and was nominated in the Best Drama category at the International Television Festival The series has also recently been nominated for an International Academy of Web Television award in Las Vegas. Locally SYD2030 has
screened at the opening night of Indie Gems Film Festival where the team behind the series won a prestigious
editing package from Spectrum Films Australia.
