Over the past year or so, the buzz has been slowly building around Brisbane student Sahara Beck. Sahara has crafted her continually growing reputation as a songwriter thanks to tracks like “Bang Bang Bang” and her new single “C’Mon Man You’re Dead”, taken from her upcoming EP You Could Be Happyreleased on October 31st.
And now Sahara is set to step out from the shadows with her high school graduation this month coinciding with the release of the You Could Be HappyEP which reflects her incredible growth as an artist. Mature, considered, and brimming with striking performances, the release features both singles and captures an artist on the rise, with plenty to say.
Growing up on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Beck’s quirky demeanour and ability to weave stories from different perspectives has quickly developed a devoted fan base and helped racked up some impressive live performances at venues and festivals including BIGSOUND, the Caloundra Music Festival, Golden Days, Noosa Long Weekend, the SolBar, The J, Peregian Originals, Joes Waterhole, Caloundra Music Festival, the Brisbane Powerhouse, the Judith Wright Centre and many more.
In October 2011, Sahara released her first full-length album, Volume One. Just 15 at the time of the release, the album’s nine tracks captured a special young writer in the making and also gave her the opportunity to hone her recording skills.
Later moving to Brisbane to continue high school, it wasn’t long before she made an impact and marked her emergence as an artist to watch by collecting a Queensland Music Award in 2012.
Since then she has become a must-see band on the local scene, while also earning airplay on national broadcaster Triple J, Triple J Unearthed, ABC Coast FM, HOT 91.1, community radio nationally and several overseas radio stations as far afield as the UK, Germany and New York.
While her thoughts will no doubt turn to a new record soon, the release of ‘You Could Be Happy’ will be marked by a continued run of shows through summer, kicking off with launches in Brisbane and at the Sunshine Coast.
