Grand Theft Auto V release gets world in a frenzy.

Video Games hit the high notes as Queensland Symphony Orchestra prepares for Video Games Unplugged: Symphony of Legends – 23 November

As the gaming world waits with bated breath and poised thumbs for the release tomorrow (17 Sept ) of Grand Theft Auto V – the game that cost some $292 million to make and market – the Queensland Symphony Orchestra is counting down for its own Video Games spectacular – when it present Video Games Unplugged: Symphony of Legends on 23 November.

The live concert event at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre will feature live performances of music from some of the greatest video games ever made at – including The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which won more than 200 Game of the Year Awards in 2011, as well as Halo, Uncharted 2 & 3, God of War and the newly released Diablo III. Also included is music from Final Fantasy VII and all new arrangements from BioShock 2, Assassins Creed II, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Secret of Mana, Civilization IV, Halo, Journey, Heavy Rain and many more. The concert will be hosted by gaming funny men Kristofer Straub (Chainsawsuit, Starslip) and Paul Verhoeven on Saturday 23 November. Supporting the music, a massive screen will showcase specially edited and timed visual packages from the games.

Video Games have gone from occupying fringe markets to being pop culture mainstream – experts are tipping Grand Theft Auto V sales to top $1billion in the first year, with gamers buyers some 25 million copies. On-sale tomorrow, Grand Theft Auto V will be the biggest entertainment  launch of the year, with levels of consumer anticipation expected to outstrip Harry Potter and Twilight.

Video Games Unplugged: Symphony of Legends is just one of three epic pop culture concerts the Queensland Symphony Orchestra is staging over the next six months, the other two being The Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers in concert with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra on 5 October 2013, and the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular on 8 February 2014.
