Ukulele songstress Hissy Loco invites you to an afternoon of songs, stories and ukulele to launch her EP Corners of My Heart in Brisbane and Melbourne. Since making the move from Brisbane to Melbourne in 2008, Hissy Loco found her weapon of choice in the ukulele. Her songs are charming narratives, personal and otherwise. The new release Corners of My Heart, co-produced by The Wild Mutations, adds electronic production to the usual live sound to give another dimension to the otherworldliness of the songs. From punchy opener ‘All I Can Do Is Sleep’, through the title track, and finishing on Hissy’s own ode to obsolete technology, ‘In the Digital Age’, join Hissy as she spring cleans the corners of her heart. Hissy Loco’s vocals demand that you listen. Her stories are so authentic and emphatic that you can’t miss a word. The songs draw you into her life and before you know it you are part of her racket.

Hissy Loco appears regularly at Melbourne events including Midsumma Carnival 2013, Bella Union Bar, Federation Square, Broadmeadows Fiesta, and bookshop and institution Hares and Hyenas.  Hissy performs as part of Va Va Boombah Fat Burlesque as resident ukulele player and is a veteran of three Melbourne Ukulele Festivals. Her first EP Fascinator was self released in 2011 and is available online via www.hissyloco.com.

About the cover: ‘It’s my favourite flat ever that I lived in, in New Farm, a very special place to me. The house of legends. I took a photo when I was up earlier in the year and commissioned my friend Rachel Dixon to draw it.’ Her work is charmingly detailed, and the perfect complement to Hissy’s nostalgic musings. Selected works by Rachel, and Chaya Smith—who painted the cover of Fascinator— will be on display at the Melbourne launch.
