Hadouken! are a British electronic band that have enjoyed great popularity in the UK with their unique sound that blurs the lines between drum and bass and electronic dance music. Their third album, ‘Every Weekend’ doesn’t stray from this genre meld, and is a testament to their style. The album shuffles the two genres together in a way that fans of both can enjoy. I found myself leaning towards the more drum and bass tracks, with other songs appearing to be the band trying their hand at Calvin Harris-like tracks which, unfortunately, sound just like every generic club track out there. But I suppose this does appeal to the mainstream – this is what they want to hear.

The album’s opening track The Vortex reminds you that Hadouken! are sticking to who their roots in-keeping with their unmistakeable sound. Much of the album is made up of singles that the band has released since their last album “For The Masses” in 2010, Parasite and Levitate have become hits on YouTube and in clubs around the world. Hadouken!’s foray in to the more electro house sound is a deviation in to the more mainstream market and those tracks noticeably suffer, but their classic British vocals and grimy drum and bass beats are what keep this album afloat. If you’re a fan of Pendulum and also like the more dance-orientated sounds of Calvin Harris and to an extent Skrillex, “Every Weekend” should be an addition to your dance playlist or for a nice way to test your sound system.
