Green Day

Uno! (Warner)

Green Day are back with a triple punch. Uno! has arrived and it will be followed, in two monthly intervals, by Dos! and Tre! Their heroes The Clash did their trifecta with the sprawling triple album, Sadinista! Green Day are delivering their vision in more bite-sized chunks. Speaking of the Clash, Green Day seem to be re-connecting with their punk roots. The songs are energetic and the choruses will stay with you all day. There’s teenage angst in the playing, while some of the lyric themes deal with the onset of maturity. They might be hitting the big 4-0, but Green Day still play with the zeal of teenagers. Despite the power pop thrills, Uno! gets better with repeated plays. Highlights include Fell For You, Kill The DJ and Trouble Maker, Angel Blue and Oh Love. Green Day, as they’ve gotten older continue to call on the fire of youth, but it’s tempered by the band using a certain dexterity when creating a sonic mood. Bring on Dos! in November and Tre! in January.
