Civil Civic Release New Album ‘Rules’

Published on February 1st, 2013

Civil Civic release their debut full-length album Rules today on CD, LP and digital formats via Remote Control. The release coincides with the duo’s appearance at ATP Melbourne’s ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ Festival and debut Australian tour which launches next week.

Civil Civic are Aaron Cupples and Ben Green, two Australian expats now living in London and Barcelona respectively. Joining the band on stage will be the enigmatic ‘Box’, part-drum machine, part light show and all road-case; the de-facto third member of the crew.

Through relentless touring and word of mouth, Civil Civic have cultivated a strong reputation for their explosive performances which has seen both The Guardian and NME praise their loud, raucous sets. They’ve since gone on to share festival stages with the likes of Spiritualized and The xx.

Catch them at Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on Thursday 7 February and Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar on Friday 8 February. The band will also play Melbourne’s The Tote on Tuesday 19 February and Adelaide’s Crown and Anchor on Thursday 21 February.

Rules is an album that came into the world slowly, the songs delicately pieced together over a two year period. The title of the record reflects the inbuilt set of guidelines that Civil Civic was founded upon and operates within. Guided by the desire to adhere to bare bones drum programming and minimal production trickery, Civil Civic have created a record that hinges on its ability to be performed in a live setting.
