Ball Park Music – The Tivoli 28TH of June

I thought perhaps the cold and the rain might deter the crowd heading to the Tivoli last Friday night. Well, I thought wrong. The line up included Ball Park Music, Eagle & The Worm and Jeremy Neal, and, right before Ball Park Music hit the stage, the venue was close to capacity. It goes to show the love and dedication Brisbane has for its live music. Even when Jeremy Neale (another home town hero) opened up the evening, the crowd was numerous and vocal.

Although Sam Cormack of Ball Park Music didn’t jump out of a giant box this time (al la Triple J’s One Night Stand) he and his gang performed with enough explosive zest to excite any audience. Ripping through the set and pleasing the locals with crowd favourites; ‘Surrender’, ‘All I Want Is You’, an extra long pause for the bridge in ‘iFly’ and finishing off with ‘Fence Sitter’. A few nice surprises were thrown in as well, with a Beatles cover of ‘Eight Days A Week’ and Sam performing ‘Coming Down’ solo on keyboards. But the fans wanted more and Ball Park encored with ‘Sea Strangers’ and the very beautiful ‘Alligator’.

Each act was received with great admiration by the crowd, and it was easy to see why. All three bands have a wit and charm about them, and when mixed with catchy pop tunes and an energetic live performance, become so warmly inviting.
