Open Studios of the Scenic Rim
The Open Studios of the Scenic Rim weekends are held throughout May, allowing visitors to see artists at work in their studios. Studios are open from 9am to 5pm on the days indicated. Appointments can be made outside these times directly with the artist. Most of the work on display in the studios is for sale, and the majority of artists are able to undertake commissions. Many are available for workshops and artists’ residencies. Open Studios are situated across the Scenic Rim including Canungra, Beechmont, Boonah, Tarome, Harrisville, Mt Barney, Tamborine Mountain, Lost World Valley and Beaudesert.
Here are some highlights:
MARK PADDICK – Boonah
21 & 22 MAY 2016
Painting | Aerosol Mixed media | Stencil
Mark Paddick is an award winning visual artist and educator who currently resides in Boonah. His work explores the tension between the oppositional forces of the physical and emotional .
Mark’s work focuses on duality and the contradictory nature of man. Conflicting ideas are represented in vibrant colour for the viewer to interpret. Mark draws influence from the media and symbolism to create a narrative.
His work is deeply personal and ranges from raw expressive works from his earlier career to the stylised recent works that have a strong sense of design.
Mark will be showing a cross section of his work and welcomes visitors to come and observe his art making process. He will also have information about workshops being held throughout the year.

Beaudesert is surrounded by some amazing countryside and is the regional hub for the Scenic Rim, serving many of the local towns and villages. Just 65 km south of Brisbane, Beaudesert is home to a number of historic homesteads, churches and was an important region in opening up Queensland. Famous for Beaudesert Blue Pumpkins and being the starting point for The Drumley Walk, Beaudesert has a rich cultural history shared by the Mununjali, Ugurapul and Wangerriburra people and descendants of the early pioneers.
BOONAH & DISTRICT
21 & 22 MAY 2016
This is the heart of the western Scenic Rim, 88km from Brisbane and 110km from the Gold Coast, nestled right up against the mountains, surrounded by rich agricultural land. The area is home to three freshwater lakes — Lake Moogerah, Maroon Dam and the recently opened Wyaralong Dam. Boonah and Kalbar are communities who love the arts and host wonderful exhibitions, concerts and community festivals.
This region is perhaps best known for its alluvial soils, which make it a fertile area rich in fresh produce. Majestic mountains, national parks and bush walking have attracted a vast array of accommodation types, and activities to suit everyone from adrenalin junkies to those more interested in a quiet, peaceful experience.
CANUNGRA & BEECHMONT
28 & 29 MAY 2016
The village of Canungra is a gateway to the Lamington National Park and is a busy weekend stop off point for motorcyclists, hang-gliders and walkers. Canungra provides a variety of local heritage-based activities, and is spoilt for choice with local food and wine with plenty of places to picnic alongside creeks and in parks. Meander up the winding country road through a tunnel of trees to arrive at the lush green paddocks and pristine rainforest of beautiful Beechmont Plateau. It’s a close-knit creative community passionate about the environment. The air is clearer and cooler and the views go on forever. You may never want to leave!
