BORN TO RUN
A Tribute to The Boss!
Saturday 11 April. Doors 7.30pm.

“I may be the President, but he is ‘The Boss.'” Barack Obama, 2009

There’s only one Pope. There’s only one Dalai Llama. And there’s only one Boss! This is the level of esteem, reverence even, with which legendary singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen is held amongst his millions of fans around the globe.

The Triffid presents ‘Born To Run’, a celebration of The Boss featuring a bunch of Brisbane’s finest bands on Saturday 11 April.

From his debut release ‘Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.’ to his most recent offering ‘High Hopes’ Springsteen has to date released 18 albums, the track listings of which read like a soundtrack for the past 4 decades.

Always a champion of the working people and a master of channeling the zeitgeist of any given time, Springsteen has written some of the most potent and poignant songs of his era.

Set lists including tracks like Born to Run, Glory Days, Rosalita, Badlands, The River, Nebraska, Dancing In The Dark, Hungry Heart and Streets of Philadelphia (the list goes on and on) continue to sell out stadiums around the world.

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and has won 20 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globes and an Academy Award, Emmy Awards and so much more.

So, it’s time. Pull out your denim! The Triffid honors The Boss with an ensemble of earnest Brisbane musicians.

MOSES GUNN COLLECTIVE
Five piece psych-rock band Moses Gunn Collective is an eclectic mix of musicians that from their other projects (Orphans Orphans, The Belligerents, The Furrs, Morning Harvey, The Family Jordan), mixing up psychedelic dream pop with soulful crooning and howling riffs, creating music that feels simultaneously classic and fresh.

MGC gained national and international exposure with their recent singles Shalala and Mary scoring rotation on triple j and community stations around Australia and a spot on Falls Festival lineup. We can’t wait to see how they channel The Boss!

GOOD OAK
Good Oak certainly turned a few heads when they sold out their first ever headline show at Black Bear Lodge and turned a few more selling out all their shows on the first ever headline tour in May. Stephen Ryan, Brett Gibson, and Tom Busby share a house and love of the irreverent side of Americana. While separately each of these blokes are pretty impressive, it’s the sum of their parts that make GOOD OAK work. Few would have guessed these three scruffy looking mates could cut such powerful harmonies.

They have supported The Cat Empire, scored coveted slots at festivals such as River Sessions, Bleach Festival, Oxford St Party, and Gympie Muster and are gaining a reputation for their determination to ensure that their audience is having as much fun as they are!

LOVE HATE REBELLION
Described as “a phenomenal mix of Soundgarden, Sparta and Clutch” J Whitaker, 272 Records, LHR have already toured nationally, playing alongside legendary acts like Meat Puppets and The Supersuckers, while receiving local, national and international airplay. Drawing on a diverse range of influences, LHR feature soaring, cathartic vocals, anguished, nail-biting guitar work, riff-laden bass melodies, and a bombastic, snare-rich rhythm section.

HALFWAY (Pictured)
Acclaimed 8 piece rock band Halfway have played shows with The Black Keys, Richard Hawley, The Jayhawks, Band of Horses, You Am I, Josh Pyke and Sloan; as well as festivals, including Big Day Out and the Toyota Gympie Muster. Halfway writers John Busby and Chris Dale are past winners of the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship, Australia’s most prestigious song writing award. The Band have have released 4 albums, the most recent being 2014’s Any Old Love.

SAHARA BECK
Over the past year or so Sahara Beck has released two critically acclaimed EPs, the most recent BLOOM in October, toured and played shows non-stop, had her music featured on radio, online and on television, collaborated with numerous artists, written countless new songs and grown into an exceptional songwriter. Along the way she has collected plenty of fans around the country too and critical nods for her engaging live show.

The Triffid, celebrating the love of music!
