She is known as ‘The undisputed queen of African music’, and on the eve of her return to Australia for Bluesfest 2015, Grammy® award winning singer/songwriter has added two Afrimawards (All Africa Music Awards) to her 20-year-long career achievements.
Winning “Best Contemporary African Artiste” and “Best Female Artiste in West Africa” saw a triumphant 2014 out for Kidjo, who released her eleventh album, ‘Eve’ and an autobiography ‘Spirit Rising: My Life, My Music’, both to world-wide critical and commercial acclaim.
Angelique said of the win “I am so proud to have been honoured…in Lagos at the Afrimawards (All Africa Music awards)!!! It means the world to me! Thanks to my fans for the support and congratulations to all the other African artists nominated: our music is rising!”
With joy and passion Angelique embodies the spirit of Africa. Through her music, life and exuberant commitment to advocacy she exemplifies unity, peace and diversity.
In an expansive career marked as much by extraordinary musical achievement as passionate advocacy and philanthropy for her homeland of Africa, Angelique Kidjo has found many ways to celebrate the rich, enlightening truth about the continent’s women beyond the media spotlight.
Produced by Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Fatboy Slim), ‘Eve’, named after her mother, is a joyous musical ode to the pride, beauty and strength of African women. The recording showcases Kidjo’s extraordinary musical vision.
Kidjo’s accolades include a 20 year discography, thousands of concerts around the world and multiple Grammy® nominations and wins, and collaborations with the likes of Carlos Santana, Bono, John Legend, Josh Groban, Peter Gabriel, Alicia Keys, and more.
