2014 has been one heck of a year for Vance Joy. And things aren’t slowing down for the Melbourne musician anytime soon, with big things on the horizon for the close of the year and the beginning of 2015.
After releasing his debut album Dream Your Life Away in September (with a #1 debut locally, #2 in Canada, #17 in the US and #20 in the UK) Vance Joy has spent the last two months traversing the Northern Hemisphere. His recent UK and European tour dates, which included two shows in London, all sold out, and his current North American dates are well placed to do the same, with many shows upgraded.
In big international news this week, Taylor Swift has invited Vance Joy to join her on her recently announced tour of North America in 2015. Taylor Swift recently covered ‘Riptide’ for BBC1’s Live Lounge, and further hand selected Vance Joy as the main support on her summer tour. The extensive run of stadium and arena concerts spanning May to October will see him as direct support for Swift’s shows performing to well over a million people across the continent.
In yet another nod to Vance Joy’s rising status overseas, it has just been confirmed that he will perform ‘Riptide’ on the Today Show on November 14 as Elvis Duran’s ‘Artist of the Month’. Aired by the NBC, the Today Show is the fifth longest running series of all time on American TV and one of the top rated national morning shows. Now 5x platinum in Australia, ‘Riptide’ continues its steady upward trajectory on the US Charts, this week holding its position in the Top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 at #49. The song is also now officially certified gold sales in the USA, and platinum in Canada.
Back home, Vance Joy’s own headline tour dates are looming, of which his Melbourne and Perth shows have already sold out. Second shows have now been added in these cities to meet demand. Before the headline tour, he’ll be performing at the Falls Festivals in Byron Bay, Lorne and Marion Bay over the New Year period and has just been announced on triple J’s huge Beat The Drum Concert for January 16, which celebrates 40 years of triple J. The one-off event is taking place at The Domain in Sydney and boasts a glowing line-up of Australia’s best live acts.
And, as if all of this isn’t good news enough, ‘Mess Is Mine’, the lead-single from Dream Your Life Away has just been certified gold locally, with the album not far behind.
Tickets for Vance Joy’s new Melbourne and Perth dates go on sale Friday November 7. See vancejoy.com for ticketing details.
