Sydney quartet Infinity Broke will launch their lauded debut album River Mirrors in Queensland next week.

Don’t miss Infinity Broke launch River Mirrors at The Loft on Chevron Island in Surfers Paradise on Friday 16 May, supported by Tall Tails and David Baker; and at The New Globe Theatre in Brisbane on Saturday 17 May, supported by The Streets of Leisure and The Scrapes.

River Mirrors is out now via Come To The Dark Side Luke / MGM Distribution. River Mirrors is available on CD and limited edition 180gm vinyl.

Infinity Broke is the new project of Jamie Hutchings and Jared Harrison of Bluebottle Kiss fame, alongside Jamie’s brother Scott Hutchings and long-term collaborator Reuben Wills. Whilst all four members have played in various incarnations of Jamie’s solo projects, most notably on his 2011 solo album Avalon Cassettes, Infinity Broke marks a musical transition for the band.

River Mirrors was recorded over two long weekends in a former shearing shed on a rural property in Western NSW, with engineer Chris Colquhoun.

There’s a notable return of electricity on River Mirrors, particularly in Jamie’s often free-improvised, jagged guitar playing. Songs go for as long or as short as they command, often hovering on chaos; however Hutchings’ unique song-writing voice and narrative approach remain as identifiable as ever. Throughout River Mirrors characters are often shadowed by the spectres of their past or the duplicity of their present. Infinity Broke’s muscular churn perfectly echoes the fractured mirrored image that many of the figures inhabit within these eight tracks.

Scott and Jared pummel kraut-rock inspired rhythms on drums and assorted percussion, which alongside Wills soulful bass playing creates a hypnotic and bloody musical canvas. If you’re sophisticated enough to love being hypnotized by early ‘70s improvisers like Can or On the Corner era Miles Davis, but you like getting beaten around by The Replacements or Hüsker Dü, then you will approve of Infinity Broke.
