Harmony James
Harmony James is often classified as a country artist, however her music draws on many genres, including folk, pop, rock and blues. As the first Australian artist to win the Best Country section of the International Songwriting Competition in 2007, Harmony James has captivated audiences with her flair for song writing. Since then, three of the four songs on her first EP recording made the top ten Australian country music hits.
Harmony was named Rising Star at the 2008 Victorian Country Music Awards, and was a 2008 New Talent Golden Guitar finalist and in 2009 Independent Female Vocalist of the Year. Warner Music Australia released the new album ‘Handfuls of Sky’ in 2012 which has gone on to achieve Golden Guitar Award nominations for Female Artist of the Year, APRA Song of the Year and Vocal Collaboration.
Anthony Forrest
Brisbane bass-heavy roof raisers Kingfisha have been laying down weighty reggae and dub and bringing their passionate music to eager audiences for five years, in the process cementing themselves as one of the must see acts of the Australian roots scene. The six-piece band deliver crafted and modern reggae music by coupling their love of Jamaican rhythms with personal depth and style. Main songwriter and vocalist Anthony Forrest fronts the band with a distinct sound that steps up to the mark set by New Zealand and Europe, in the Reggae/Dub scene.
The band’s self-titled LP has seen support from national network triple j, was also feature LP on PBSFM, Radio Australia and Eastside Radio. Lead single ‘Looking Glass’ was added to FBI radio and SYN FM and enjoyed airplay across community radio and also spent three week in the number 1 spot in the AIRT/AMRAP Now Charts as well as second single ‘Piece of the Puzzle’ added to rotation on triple j.
Ange Takats
Former foreign correspondent turned folk singer Ange Takats has a voice that is able to coat with sugar, crush with sadness and cut through to the soul of a song. She won the 2013 Folk/ Singer Songwriter prize at the Queensland Music Awards for a track off her new album, ‘Arva’, which blends Americana 60s folk with 1930s jazz. The album was produced and recorded in Gippsland by J. Walker (Machine Translations).
Strangely enough, Ange’s career began in Bangkok where she worked as a journalist by day and folk singer by night. Her worldly adventures and natural gift for storytelling have allowed the Sunshine Coast based artist to develop a unique performance style – weaving lighthearted travel tales between darkly emotive songs.
