Saxo Scandinavian Film Festival

Published on July 15th, 2024

Celebrating a decade on Australian cinema screens, the 2024 Saxo Scandinavian Film Festival continues to showcase the best contemporary Nordic cinema selected from major international film festivals and markets.

Geographically, Scandinavia refers to the Northern European sub-region of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, but over a decade ago at the Cannes Film Festival the idea was born to incorporate more countries from the Nordic region into a festival for the Australian audience to experience.

This year’s lineup features films that bear the hallmarks of Nordic cinema – sweeping dramas, crime thrillers, black comedy and spectacular cinematography and landscapes. The retrospective also pays homage to the iconic collaboration between Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman, with four celebrated films.

The festival runs in Brisbane from July 18 to August 7 at Palace Barracks and Palace James Street.
