TURNBUCKLES RETURN TO ROCK BRISBANE AFTER 18 YEARS

Eighteen years after their last Brisbane show, Rock and Roll Tag Team World Champions the Psychotic Turnbuckles are returning for a one-off gig at the Beetle Bar on Saturday, May 25.

Fuzzed up and ready for canvas-slamming real rock action, the Turnbuckles have been locked down in a secret training camp in their home town of Pismo Beach, California, to prepare for select Australian shows to promote a double CD, “Destroy Dull City”.

“Destroy Dull City” compiles their debut EP of the same name, every A and B Side, the “Beyond The Flipout” LP and a host of rare and unreleased tracks.

Joining the undercard for the gig are Brisbane institution Mick Medew and The Rumours and Dr Bombay, the new band fronted by Voodoo Lust singer Gary Slater.

The Turnbuckles relocated to Australia in the 1980s after being banned from the US professional wrestling circuit.

The lack of meaningful music Down Under prompted them to take up instruments and for the best part of a decade they burned stages up and down the Australian East Coast, playing with the likes of The Troggs, the Hitmen, Dark Carnival, the Screaming Tribesmen – even drawing members of Guns and Roses to one show.

Members gravitated back to that warm Californian sun so the Turnbuckles undertook a farewell run of Australian gigs in 1994. They had not been sighted since then before a one-off reformation show in Sydney in December 2012.

That sold-out show in turn prompted the legendary Citadel Records label to sign them. “Destroy Dull City” includes two sizzling live tracks from that gig.

The Psychotic Turnbuckles are Jesse The Intruder (vocals), The Grand Wizard (guitar), El Sicoldelico (guitar), The Psychedelic Unknown (bass) and Lord Gorgeous Karl Domah (drums.)
