Formed from the meeting of five lively minds in Nottingham in 2008, Dog Is Dead have set about establishing themselves in the style of their music and personalities, with the minimum of fuss but the maximum of drive, determination and individuality.
With band members drawing influence from a wide range of music, their sound to date veers from African Hi-Life rhythms to complexities drawn from the non-goblins and pixies end of prog, the sharp choruses of 80’s power pop and the twists and turns of intelligent alternative music. They are an undefinable band and their music is better for it.
Things really began for Dog Is Dead when they released their Atlantic Records debut, ‘All Our Favourite Stories’ which features the lead single ‘Glockenspiel Song’. With this album behind them, they began captivating their home town of Nottingham with sold out shows in that area which then led to supports with a host of bands from Mumford and Sons to OK GO with many more in between.
Also a string of festival performances under their belts, which includes ‘Dot to Dot’ and The UK’s ‘Splendour Festival’ in 2009, 2010 saw the band play the fields of Glastonbury, where they became the only unsigned band to feature on the BBC2 coverage, and Summer Sundae.
The band recently featured as themselves on the cult TV series ‘Skins’, were they appeared in the final episode of Season 5 performing the ‘Glockenspiel Song’ in a marquee.
