RUBY BOOTS RELEASES NEW SINGLE WRAP ME IN A FEVER

‘Wrap Me in A Fever’, the second single from Ruby Boots’ forthcoming debut album ‘Solitude’, is built around a tender vocal from the song’s writer and Ruby Boots’ front womanBex Chilcott. The gutsy redhead sounds like a woman teetering on the verge of falling apart, with her repeated plan to blame an absent lover for any ominous action looming on the horizon. This desperate – and classic – loneliness is balanced by an almost giddy rhythm capturing all the fresh lightheaded-ness of a heart that’s newly in love. Heavenly sweeteners come in the form of backing vocals from Jill Chrisp and Richard Bradbeer, plus Joe Cope’s organ and the playful steel of Lee Jones. Each component is instrumental in cleverly pulling the protagonist back to earth and ensuring the song strays nowhere near maudlin melodrama. Music with soul. Misery doesn’t come much sweeter.

‘Wrap Me In A Fever’ was recorded in Melbourne’s Sing Sing South with one of Australia’s finest producers Anna Laverty and a slew of some of Australia’s finest players including George Servanis (Mama Kin, Melbourne Ska Orchestra), Richard Bradbeer (New Gods, Eagle and The Worm), Joe Cope and Ben Blakeney.

“Anna and I bonded over a mutual obsession of Ryan Adams before we had even stepped into the studio. She instantly fell in love with ‘Wrap Me In A Fever’, so I just as instantly felt that recording the song with her would be one that was high in chemistry and connection in the studio” – Bex Chilcott.

Penned in her favourite cheap motel room in Newtown, Sydney, Chilcott says ‘Wrap Me In A Fever’ is a song that doesn’t feel like it’s going to get old for her in a hurry.

“My songs are my vessels that keep me in check, but sometimes you feel like you’ve taken what you want from that period or moment in your life, put it in a song and move on, whereas ‘Wrap Me In A Fever’ keeps on giving because it’s a bittersweet reminder of the vulnerability that rears it’s lonely self when we follow our hearts, and that’s something that’s never going to change.”

The new single release follows the announcement of Ruby Boots’ signing to label Lost Highway in January 2015, and is a masterful follow up track to the impassioned first single‘Middle Of Nowhere’. Fresh from touring as support act with American folk duo Shovels and Rope earlier in this month, Ruby Boots performs shows in Melbourne and at Boddington Blues Festival before she wraps March up in a fever supporting legendary US singer-songwriter Tony Joe White on tour throughout New South Wales.
